(For current students) Extension of the State of Emergency Declaration

March 8, 2021
Sophia University

Dear Students,

The declaration of a state of emergency in the Tokyo metropolitan area is extended until March 21, 2021.

Since the declaration of the state of emergency addressed on January 7, the university has suspended in-person extracurricular activities, however based on general assessments of the current social state, we decided to allow those activities from Monday, March 8, provided that we take thorough measures to prevent infection. In addition, activities using on-campus facilities are to resume on Saturday, March 13.

Although the number of cases of Covid-19 in Japan has been decreasing, the declaration is extended in order to avoid rebound of the cases and tightening of medical care. As you may already be well-aware, please resume your activities with sufficient care and consideration. For more details, please check the notice from the Student Center.

It has been repeatedly indicated by the expert meetings that the risk of infection is high at large group gatherings with masks removed, as in drinking parties. We ask for the mindful acts in order to sustain our extracurricular activities onto the future, and as for those who are preparing for a great start of their careers.

Balancing in-person activities while preventing spread of infections remains to be challenging. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as our new academic year is approaching.
