Professor Emeritus Toshiaki Koso, S.J., former Chancellor of the Sophia School Corporation, is set to be awarded one of Japan’s highest honors: the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star.

This prestigious accolade stands as a testament to his outstanding accomplishments.

The Japanese government bestows the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star upon individuals who have made significant contributions across diverse fields, including culture, sports, advancements in science and technology, environmental conservation, and other vital societal sectors.

This honor recognizes Professor Koso’s steadfast leadership and dedication during his tenure as Chancellor of the Sophia School Corporation. Beyond this role, he also served as President of the University of the Sacred Heart, Tokyo, and was a committee member of the Central Council for Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. His contributions have played a pivotal role in the advancement and promotion of private educational institutions in Japan.

Professor Koso will receive the insignia and certificate from the Prime Minister at the Imperial Palace on May 9th, followed by an audience with His Majesty the Emperor.
