Fostering a Sustainable Future with the Local Community

In May 2022, Sophia University’s newest addition, the three-story wooden Building 15, was completed on the Yotsuya campus. Known for its distinctive exterior with a lattice design made of wood from the Tama region, Building 15 stands as a modern landmark on the campus.

In another milestone, on April 1, 2024, this building will welcome a new Starbucks store on its 1st floor. Located on the vibrant Kojimachi Avenue, the store aims to leverage its prime location to promote community interaction.

Sophia University, along with the new Starbucks store, aims to create a community space that brings together students, faculty, visitors and locals through a shared love of coffee and contributes to the local community. In addition, the university is considering initiatives to promote sustainable efforts, such as recycling and reusing coffee-related materials, with the involvement of current students.
