Sophia’s Project Selected for “Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (SPRING)”

A project of Sophia University was selected as a new project in FY 2024 in the program “Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (SPRING)” initiated by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).  This is the first time for Sophia University to be selected in SPRING.

SPRING is a national initiative that supports the various efforts to implement and expand research support capacity by appointing a managing director and through selecting excellent doctoral students beyond the existing framework of university graduate schools and laboratories at the selected universities.

The selected project “Global Doctoral Development Project for the Sustainable Future Society (Sophia SPRING Project)” directed by Professor Kenichi TAKAI, Dean of the Graduate School of Science and Technology, will refine career support programs for doctoral students who would explore for diverse career paths, in addition to financial support programs, based on the three unique capabilities of “interdisciplinarity,” “internationality,” and “humanity” of Sophia University.

Sophia University will further strengthen programs of our graduate schools and advance research activities.  Sophia university intends to refine a learning environment providing further financial and career development support to our students who will be able to focus on their research during their graduate programs and explore for diverse career paths after the degree completion in academia, industry, and so on to solve various social issues in a global setting.
