From August 23 to 30, 2021, one of the Summer Short-term Program “SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT STUDY OF INDIA: CASE STUDY OF KERALA MODEL” was held.

This program is designed for students to study intensively about the characteristics and issues of the region, especially in South India from various aspects.
In addition to understanding the local culture and society, students are expected to learn about India, which is growing rapidly, through site visits and discussions, and deepen our understanding of how they can relate with developing countries.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was held online this year; 9 students participated from classroom and one student participated from home.

Led by Professor John Josef Puthenkalam, students were connected with our local partner institution; St, Teresa’s College in Kerala, South India and other related facilities in Japan such as Vedanta Society of Japan, Embassy of India in Japan, and had lively discussions.

On the final day, students summarized what they learned and made a final group presentation to the faculties from St. Teresa’s College.

Although students could not visit India, they learned intensively about India from various perspectives by participating this virtual program.
