The 63rd Wild Eagle Gathering Held at Sophia University

On December 5, the 63rd Wild Eagle Gathering, including a workshop on the Sophia University School Anthem, was held by the Sophia University Cheering Squad.

The Cheering Squad, celebrating its 65th anniversary since its founding in 1960, consists of three divisions: the leaders, the wind ensemble, and the cheerleading squad. The Wild Eagle Gathering is a traditional event where the group showcases the results of their daily practice to both the campus community and the broader public. Since 2012, the event has also included a workshop for students and faculty to learn about the school anthem. Held in Classroom 101 of Building 6, the event attracted an audience of more than 250 attendees, including students, faculty, and parents.

The gathering began with an opening performance by the cheerleading squad, presenting a “chance pattern” medley that heightened the excitement in the room. This was followed by the school anthem workshop, where students, faculty, and guests joined together in heartfelt singing of the anthem.

Next, a speech was delivered by President Miki Sugimura, followed by video messages of cheers from Cheering Squads of other universities with whom Sophia maintains exchanges, including Kokugakuin University, Seikei University, and Kokushikan University.

Afterward, first-year students, members of the athletic federation, the cheerleading squad itself, the wind ensemble, the leaders, and executive officers each performed, showcasing the results of their rigorous training. To conclude the event, the student song, the beloved anthem, and the school anthem were sung, and the gathering ended with a rousing cheer of “Hooray, hooray, SOPHIA!”
