Delegates from Luxembourg Visit Sophia University to Promote Research and Student Exchange

On July 15, 2025, a delegation from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, including Minister of Higher Education and Research Stéphanie Obertin, along with government and university representatives, visited Sophia University’s Yotsuya Campus.
The meeting began with Minister Obertan outlining Luxembourg’s priority research areas, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and data science. In response, Sophia University President Miki Sugimura and Tomoe Yoshino, Director of the Office of Global Education and Collaboration, provided an overview of the university and its history of collaboration with the University of Luxembourg.
This was followed by presentations on initiatives in AI and data science within Sophia’s Faculty and Graduate School of Science and Technology, as well as plans for the new Department of Digital Green Technology, set to launch in April 2027. Research activities in the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, particularly those related to the SDGs, were also highlighted. The discussion included ideas for future joint research and expanded researcher and student exchanges.
Two students from the University of Luxembourg’s education program also participated, sharing their positive experiences studying at Sophia University. The meeting proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere, fostering expectations for further academic collaboration in the future.
