Sophia University and Temple University, Japan Campus Host Annual All-English Language Joint Career Fair

Sophia University and the Japan campus of Temple University (TUJ) held an annual joint career fair on September 26, 2024, at Sophia’s Yotsuya campus. This year’s event was the first in-person gathering since 2019, bringing together more than 300 students from both universities to meet with recruiting representatives from 11 companies.

The joint career fair, which has been taking place since 2012, focuses on employers hiring for full-time, visa-sponsoring positions. What makes this event unique is its concentration on companies that recruit students with international backgrounds and are flexible about Japanese language proficiency.

Students from both universities initially attended an introductory presentation from 3:30 pm delivered by each participating company. Following the presentations, students visited individual company booths to gather more detailed information from recruiting representatives. The event attracted steady crowds to the booths, maintaining high engagement until it concluded at 6:30 pm.

Comments from Sophia University:
“Student participation exceeded expectations, suggesting a significant interest and demand for more opportunities like this” said Gary Auger from the Career Center at Sophia University.  “We had great companies join us and are looking forward to building on the success of this event in future events. “

Comments from TUJ:
“It was wonderful to host this event in person for the first time in five years and we were thrilled to see record attendance,” said Erica Adams, the director of the career development office at TUJ. “I’m proud of our TUJ students for showing up in large numbers and making the most of this valuable opportunity. The feedback from both students and employers has been only positive and I feel satisfied and grateful for the success of the event.”
