Exchange students are not required to pay tuition fees to their host university (they are required to pay tuition fees only to Sophia University). However, they may be required to pay for other expenses such as insurance coverage, as specified by the host university. On the other hand, for general study abroad or study abroad on a leave of absence, students are required to pay tuition and enrollment fees to both Sophia University (reduction is applied to a leave of absence) and the host university.
Students are required to bear both travel and living expenses. For a one-year study abroad program, the total cost is estimated to range from approximately 2 to 4 million yen. However, this amount varies greatly depending on the destination, exchange rate, housing, vacation schedule, etc. Please use this estimate as a rough guide.
Please refer to the Web Piloti “Study Abroad Fees/Scholarships” page for the latest information and details on specific procedures for current students.
Various types of scholarships are available to help reduce the cost of studying abroad.
Scholarships for general study abroad students (scholarships for general study abroad), scholarships for graduates of Sophia University who wish to enter graduate schools overseas (JASSO support program for students study abroad, and scholarships offered by outside organizations are also available.
