上智大学が創立110周年を迎えたことを、この大学に学び、巣立たれた皆様、また大学の教育、研究、社会貢献に尽くしてくださった皆様、また多種多様な形で支援をしてくださった全ての皆様、そして静かにその発展を見守ってくださった全ての方々と共に喜びを分かち合いたいと思います。改めまして、本学へ常に温かい眼差しを向けていただき激励をいただいておりますことに、大学を代表して深く感謝申し上げます。

I would like to share the joy of celebrating Sophia University’s 110th anniversary with all those who have learned and graduated from the university, those who have contributed to education, research, and welfare of society, as well as everyone who has supported the university in various ways, and those who have watched our growth with great patience. On behalf of the university, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for the warmth and encouragement you have always shown to our university.

上智大学が標榜し、常に社会に発信し続けてきた教育精神「for others, with others」は、現代社会において、その根源的価値がさらに高まり、その意味もさらに深化を続けていると認識しています。社会変革が続き、社会構造も複雑化する現況にあって、他者に、特に弱者に寄り添う私たちの精神の発揮、具現化にも、創意工夫と確実な実行力が求められています。教育、研究、そして様々な社会貢献を果たす役割において、現代社会でこの教育精神をどのように私たちは表現し、社会に具体を描き示すのかが問われているのです。

We recognize that the educational spirit “for others, with others,” for which Sophia University has advocated and constantly transmitted to society, has become even more valuable in today’s society, and its significance further enhances and continues to evolve. In the current conditions of ongoing social reform and increasing complexity of social structure, we are required to demonstrate and embody our spirit of being there for others, especially for the vulnerable, with initiative, ingenuity, and solid execution. In our roles in education, research, and various aspects of social contribution, we are being asked how we can best articulate and embody this spirit of education in today’s society.

今上智大学に在籍する私たちは、この110年の間断なき歩み、そしてその積み重ねの意味を提示する使命を帯びていると実感しています。そして私たちはこれからも「for others, with others」を謳い続けていきます。感染症という困難に直面しても、国際紛争に社会が動揺しても、AIが社会を席巻しても、上智大学は根底にある人間の尊厳こそが尊重される社会を導く智の交流の場であり続けたいと決意を新たにしています。

All of us here at Sophia University are aware that our mission is to demonstrate our commitment and the significance of our achievements of the last 110 years. And we will continue to advocate “for others, with others”. Even in times of challenges posed by epidemics, international conflicts, and social changes driven by AI, Sophia University will remain as a place for the exchange of wisdom that will lead the way to a society in which human dignity is respected at its very core.

110周年にあたりSophia Qualityを追求するGL3.0をスタートさせ、上智大学を、そして社会の未来を切り拓く体制を整えました。引き続き邁進してまいります。

On the occasion of our 110th anniversary, we have launched GL3.0 in pursuit of Sophia Quality, and we are now ready to pave the way for the future of Sophia University and our society. We are determined to push forward in our endeavors.
