○講義概要
In this seminar, we will explore together a range of social, political and cultural issues, discourses and their relevance and meanings for contemporary Australia. For example, the process of Reconciliation, Land and Sea Rights, indigenous Australia, the Stolen Generation; Land and Environment; Cultural Diversity, Citizenship and National Identity debates; Race, Gender and National Identity debates; Religion; the role of Sport; Globalisation, Nationalism and identity; Australia in Asia; the Australia-Japan relationship; Republican Australia?
Participants will be expected to critically evaluate a range of opinions concerning these controversial issues and in turn be challenged by their fellow students. Self reflection and critical engagement are positively encouraged.
The number of participants will be decided in the first class.
Australian Society I OR II is a pre-requisite for this seminar. However, exceptions could be made after consultation with the instructor.
