American Theater and Film
|
○講義概要 |
This course is designed to explore the unfolding relationship between theater and film. Since the appearance of motion pictures in the late 1890s, each artistic practice has undergone a series of wide ranging developments. Many of these changes have resulted from a complex interdynamic between the two. Through a variety of writings (plays, theoretical and historical writings) as well as specific filmic texts, we will investigate the specificity of each artistic practice as well as their similarities and shared heritage at various historical conjunctures. The problem of adaptation from the stage to the screen will be developed along the broadest possible parameters, not simply in terms of the "work" itself but vis-a-vis acting styles and various technical categories such as lighting.
