Introduction to British and American Culture (EF)
|
○講義概要 |
Language is unarguably related to culture. Knowing a language entails not only knowing the meaning of words, but how the words are used effectively and appropriately in a given context. In this course, we will be exploring various aspects of British and American cultures in order to gain a greater understanding and appreciation for western psyche and cultural appropriateness.
In this course, emphasis will be made on group work. You will be working in groups of 2 to 3, each group in charge of the discussion topic of the day. In the first semester, American cultural aspects and perspectives are explored, followed by the British perspectives in the second semester.
Presentation consists of the following: 1) Overview of the discussion topic 2) Activity designed by the presenters pertaining to the topic discussed 3) Discussion based on a discussion question provided by the presenters 4) Contract that details the allocation of workload among group members
