| ○講義概要 |
This course is for students who already feel comfortable speaking English in social situations but would like to strengthen their ability to express their opinions and participate in discussions in English.We will begin by discussing reasonably simple topics(movies,music etc)and then move to more complex social and political topics(yutori education system,the death penalty etc.)By the end of the year,students should be able to express a well-thought out opinion as well as to participate comfortably in discussions.
We will also focus strongly on developing listening skills.

授業参画(20%)、前期学期末試験(授業期間中)(20%)、後期学期末試験(授業期間中)(20%)、中間試験(10%)、小テスト等(30%)
Must attend 85%+ of class
Because this is a discussion class, students will be asked to think (not necessarily write anything or do any homework) about discussion topics before class to prepare for discussions. The thought and preparation that students bring to discussion will be considered when determining the final grade.

| ○テキスト |
Please bring the textbook to the first day of class. The textbook is a discussion strategies textbook. This means it will not teach you any new grammar points necessarily. Instead, it focuses on developing the sorts of behavoir and responses that are natural to English speakers in a discussion. We will also do a lot of listening practice. The teacher will distribute prints for this. The teacher will collect 500 yen to pay for the prints. Students should also prepare a class folder to keep their class prints.
