Developing Teacher-Researcher Competence
○講義概要
This course is intended to help students acquire research competence in the area of English language education by gathering and analyzing the data relevant to their own interest. The topics that will be covered in the course will include the following among others; interlanguage, language learning strategies, motivation and attitudes, classroom language development, syllabus-design, content-based language teaching, language assessment, and program evaluation.

○授業計画
1The student of this course will be required to find a research topic of his/her senior thesis by taking the following steps. The teaching will follow the sequence of presenting a summary of a chapter of the book, giving a critical view of the content, and developing the issue into a form of research question.
21. Read an introductory textbook on ESL (English as a Second Language)/EFL (English as a Foreign language) to acquire the basic knowledge in the field.
32. Write a summary of a chapter of the book that is related to his/her research interest.
43. Record his/her own experience of leaning a foreign language and/or teaching he/she received.
54. Identify the problem(s) of the method of his/her learning and/or the teaching he/she received.
65. Search research literature that may help solve the problem(s), read it, and summarize it to formulate research questions.
76. Write an outline of his/her senior thesis.
