YONEKURA MICHIO
|
○講義概要 |
This course focuses on the art of the Kamakura and Nanbokucho periods, which correspond to the late twelfth through the fourteenth centuries. Though political power shifted from the court in Kyoto to the military government in Kamakura, the imperial court and aristocrats remained influential in the social and cultural spheres of the society in this era. In the area of religion, it was in this period that diverse developments came about within the Pure Land Sect of Buddhism involving followers who were not from the ruling class. Zen Buddhism was also introduced from China and Shinto-Buddhist syncretism became prevalent. Artists were frequently called upon to give visual expression to these myriad societal shifts witnessed during this volatile era. The goal of this course is to probe the types of artwork that were produced during this transitional period and to come to know what their characteristics indicate about the time in Japanese history.
