3-1 Number of outgoing exchange students
There is a general rising trend, but since Academic Year (AY) 2014 a significant increase is observed. This is mainly due to a considerable increase of students of Faculty of Foreign Studies (about 100 students). Another factor could be the”Go global Japan Project” for which Sophia was selected in AY 2012. As for the students in other Faculties, there is a slight increase and decrease by academic year and no significant trend is seen, except in Faculty of Economics where outgoing students are increasing steadily since AY 2010. Looking at the regions, in recent years, study abroad to Asian countries shows increasing tendency. North America remains the most popular region for study abroad, with over 100 students since AY 2011. Europe is rapidly closing in with an increasing trend of outgoing students.
