Academic presentations in English
○講義概要
This course will use the textbook by Professor Ono, which all students should buy, and prints from the other textbook and related materials. These will be distributed free of charge. Students should prepare copies of the OHP pages that they will present; they will not have to pay for these copies themselves.

出席状況(25%)、授業参画(50%)、レポート(25%)
Reports means presentations in class.
○テキスト
The Japanese textbook should be purchased by all students. I will speak in English or in Japanese as each sitaution warrents.

Printed pages in English about presentations will be presented for free from time to time.

可 (Students should expect that the content of the presentations will be related to science and engineering. I will use both Japanese and English when I speak.)
○授業計画
1Needs analysis. Training in posture and voice volume. The textbooks will be introduced and praised.
2Gestures and eye contact will be practiced. For next week, students must prepare one OHP page to project and explain to the other students.
3First practice with pointers and OHP sheets. The textbook has some good pieces of advice. Voice inflection exercises.
4Structural message. Introductions. Visual message comments.
5Practice in reading aloud a text that each student has identified as easy for him or her to understand.
6Content: ideas and vocabulary. First old=known material, then new=unknown material. How many clauses in each sentence?
7Students will present first drafts of introductions to a presentation that they will eventually perform.
8Comments and return of first drafts.
9First drafts of speech body for each student. Questions will be analysed and practiced.
10First drafts of body sections returned with comments. More complicated visuals.
11Practice presentations with questions.
12More practice presentations with questions.
13Answering questions from another person; discussion. More practice presentations.
14Final recommendations.
