○講義概要 |
The purpose of this course is to deepen your understanding of issues in Instructed Second Language Acquisition (SLA) through discussions based on student presentations. We will focus in particular on various issues of what is known as focus on form in second language acquisition and instruction. This is an area of SLA where research and language teaching come close together. Thus, it is both theoretical and practical at the same time. As such, insights from various perspectives, including ideas, opinions, and questions of researchers, teachers, and learners, will all be useful. You are encouraged to take any of these perspectives in raising questions and approaching the topic. My hope is that through extensive and sometimes intensive discussion in class, you will refine your understanding of the complexity of the issues at hand and develop an attitude to explore them with critical and constructive minds. Students should have taken my SLA course or my Reading course (Language Acquisition and Instruction) to take this class.
