Academic Written English Composition
|
○講義概要 |
As this is a level III composition course students will be expected to have a reasonable level of written English as a prerequisite. This course will emphasise improving their written English generally. This will be accomplished by a number of activites and any grammatical and written errors will be dealt with as and when they occur. However the main emphasis will be on Academic Written English though. After an initial period of assessing the student's abilities project work will be introduced. This will involve out of class research in groups to put together a project that will be presented to the class by each group. The results of this will then be written up in a persuasive / argumentative style paper, as an introduction to the type of papers expected in academic writing. These papers will then be assessed and the students encouraged to do self assessments of their work as well. The course will then focus more narrowly on academic writing and cover all the sections that an academic paper should have as well as the styles and content of such writing. The course will end with students writing a 5000 word academic paper on a topic of their own choosing. This will account for 80% of the final grade with classwork and attendance making up the other 20%. A minimum of 80% attendance of all classes is required as less than this will result in a fail grade. All materials will be supplied by the teacher so no books are necessary.
