○講義概要
This course aims to provide an authentic context for an integrated skills approach to content area language learning which views language as an aspect of communication. Themes related to global issues chosen by students provide not only authentic content but stimulate discussion, critical analysis, personal judgement, cooperation, participation and social skills such as negotiating, empathy, listening, learning from and teaching each other, becoming more autonomous and responsible; such themes also stimulate the development of linguistic, cognitive and study skills. These skills are a natural complement to the exploration of global issues. In brief, this course aims to teach students to think for themselves and to be better communicators.
