Literary Criticism: Part Two
|
○講義概要 |
During the second term we will focus on irony.
First we will study the concept of irony and its historical development. Then we will consider irony from a philosophical point of view, with reference mainly to Plato, and build up an understanding of stable irony, the recognition of irony, and the varieties of irony. Next we will look at romantic irony and the ironic subject, before moving on to satire and the humorous aspects of irony. We will discuss irony in relation to structuralism, deconstruction and existentialism, and (if time permits) attempt to explore the postmodern application of irony.
