| ○講義概要 |
This course will introduce students to the academic theories and practices of cinema studies and give students the tools with which to approach the question, “why should anyone take Hollywood seriously?” Students will consider and debate the basic assumptions of cinema studies: that cinema history is cultural history; that it is important to study Hollywood as a commercial entity as well as entertainment and/or art; and that learning to see movies critically can increase our appreciation of them.

Attendance is required. Grades will be based on participation, quizzes, homework, and a final essay.
