This is an introductory course providing an overview of the major components in theoretical and applied linguistics, including morphology, syntax, semantics, phonology and phonetics as well as the phenomenon of language acquisition and evolvement of language in society. As this is a graduate course, aim will be to provide students with opportunities to identify an area of their interest for which they engage in further reading and provide a literature review.
