| ○講義概要 |
A. Liberman, "Word Origins" (OUP, 2005)を読む。同書は、語源学の歴史、原理、方法、文献を包括的に論じた最新かつ最良のテキストである。文体も、無味乾燥な教科書調に陥ることなくreadableであり、読む楽しみと学ぶ喜びの両方を味わえる。本演習の目的は基本的にはscienceとしての語源学を体系的に研究することにあるが、語彙増強や英語教育といった実用面への応用にも触れることになる。英語学専攻者はもとより、英米文学や英語教育を専門とする学生にとっても、有益な内容となろう。
