○講義概要
An introductory survey of language from linguistic perspectives with special focus on the Japanese and English languages. The main goal of the course is to become familiar with looking at the Japanese language from the viewpoints of other languages (from the typological perspectives). Lectures on the grammatical aspects of language (morphology, syntax, semantics, phonetics, and phonology), followed by sociological and biological aspects of language. Native speakers of Japanese and those who have never been oriented in linguistics are especially encouraged to take this course.

出席状況(20%)、授業参画(20%)、前期学期末試験(授業期間中)(30%)、中間試験(30%)
Mid-term and final examinations are take-home examinations.
