○講義概要
This is an introductory course in peace studies for students of international relations. The textbook will provide a framework for the topics to be covered: approaches to war; building "negative peace"; building "positive peace"; nonviolence; religious inspiration; peace movements; transformation and the future. Additional current topics include: humanitarian intervention or the responsibility to protect, especially through international organizations like the United Nations; recent changes in the national security strategy of the United States after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; application of peace research concepts to the conflicts involving Iraq; "human security" as an integrating concept. Lectures will be in English. Student reports may be in Japanese or English

出席状況(26%)、授業参画(14%)、レポート(60%)
授業の参加、口頭・筆記レポートによる評価。
In addition to reading the textbook and other assignments, and participating in class, each student will have to make some oral and written reports (the exact style and number will depend on the number of students in the class and other considerations).
