MULLINS MARK
○講義概要 |
This course will examine the two primary sources of Christianity in Japan: transplanted mission churches and indigenous Christian movements. Lectures and readings will cover the first phase of Roman Catholic mission to Japan (“the Christian century”), the emergence of the “hidden Christian” tradition (kakure kirishitan) during the Tokugawa period, and the development of numerous indigenous Christian movements in response to the Roman Catholic and Protestant mission churches during Japan’s modern century. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the diverse Japanese responses and alternatives to Western Christianity.
