○講義概要 |
Some observe that there has been an alarming global increase in religiously-motivated violence in recent years. Others say that violence has been an intrinsic part of human nature since the beginning of human history. In either case, the study of religion seems to be a key to address the problem of human violence. The first part of the course will examine specific manifestations of violence in various religious traditions such as Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and Aum Shinrikyo. In the second part, we will approach religious violence with the theoretical perspective and explore the religious meaning of conflict and violence. The goal of this course is to deepen our understanding of the nature of religion as well as human violence by examining their close relationship.
