◆CREATIVE WRITING - (後)
WITMER ROBERT
○講義概要
Designed to encourage and guide those students with a keen interest in literary expression, this course combines the writing of original works with critical analysis of contemporary short fiction. The inter-relationship of writing and reading is emphasized throughout the course. By examining the work of professional writers, by engaging in constructive criticism in workshops, and by producing a considerable amount of creative writing, students will gain valuable insights into the art and craft of fiction. The creative aim is to produce imaginative writing that is aesthetically effective.
○評価方法
Student writers refine their art and craft through extensive writing and reading and by exchanging criticism with fellow writers. Thus, there are four specific criteria for successful completion of this course. First, students must write on a regular basis. This will include keeping a journal, doing exploratory exercises, and completing a number of original stories. Each student will submit a portfolio of completed stories on the final day of class. Second, students must learn how to learn from professional writers. For our purposes, this will involve close textual analysis and some written criticism of selected works of contemporary short fiction. Third, students must work with others in the class to improve strategies and skills. At least half of our class time will be devoted to worksho
