A study of the major British works in poetry, drama, and fiction of the modern period.
Specific units to be covered include: the British novel (J. Cary, James Joyce, V. Woolf); extraterritorial literature (N. Gordimer, Doris Lessing, VS Naipaul, Desai); modern poetry (Yeats, T. S. Eliot, Dylan Thomas, Adcock); absurdist drama (S. Beckett, C. Churchill, H. Pinter); and in-yer-face theatre (Sarah Kane, McDonagh, M. Ravenhill, Philip Marber).
