Human Images in Chinese History:Chinese Figure Painting and Portraits from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)
|
○講義概要 |
Human Figures (renwu) is the oldest genre of painting in China. Ming Revivalists movements ushered painters to absorb the long history of figure and portrait paintings. During this period not just conventional subjects and compositions, but advanced techniques for realistic depiction of contemporaries were demanded by the portrait sitters and patrons. Furthermore, sensitive reactions to newly introduced European contemporary figure painting methods and their assimilation were seen among the artists of the late Ming period and their works. Studying history of Ming figure paintings and portraits leads us to comprehend not just the significances in this oldest genre of Chinese painting, but also shows us how the art works can reflect changing society and growing city culture in the Ming period.
