◆SURVEY OF CHINESE ART 1 - (前)
KOBAYASHI HIROMITSU
○科目サブタイトル
Chinese Art from the Neolithic through the Tang Dynasty
○講義概要
The course is an introduction to Chinese art from the Neolithic through the Tang dynasty. The objects and paintings provide materials that aid us to comprehend the history of Chinese culture. Chinese objects regarded as works of art were not initially produced to be seen in museums. Bronze vessels, jade carvings, ceramics and lacquer wares unearthed from the tomb sites carried ritual functions and often display common symbolic designs from which we learn original meanings of their production. Objects made and preserved at temples usually have religious functions. Paintings also were produced to serve various purposes. The course places its emphasis on function and purpose in which these artistic objects were produced as well as their art historical development. A museum trip will be scheduled during the term.
