◆"NATIONALISM, CITIZENSHIP, AND DEMOCRACY IN JAPAN" - (前)
ANNO TADASHI
○講義概要
This seminar course examines the complex linkages and tensions between democracy, citizenship, and nationalism in modern Japan. Political debate in contemporary Japan is defined by resurgent nationalism on the one hand and by urges for further "reform" of Japanese democracy. We take a theoretical and issue-oriented approach to this great ideological debate. In the first part of the course, we will read and discuss theoretical works and historically significant texts that help us analyze the linkages and tensions between democracy, citizenship, and nationalism in the Japanese context. The second part will focus on contemporary issues such as the issue of history education, civil society, and the status of foreigners in Japan.
