◆THE CITY AND THE SOCIETY OF EDO - (前)
NAKAI KATE
○講義概要
An examination of various dimensions of urban society in the Tokugawa period with a particular focus on life in the city of Edo. Emphasis is on analysis of first-hand materials providing a concrete picture of social relations and daily life in Edo.
○評価方法
Each class session will focus on discussion of the readings assigned for the day; students will be expected to submit comments on the readings via Blackboard prior to the class and to participate in the class discussion. For graduate students, formal written work will consist of three papers based on the class readings plus one research paper on a topic of the student's choice related to the subject matter of the class. Grades for the class will be based on the student's overall performance with greatest weight given to the four papers.
