イェスペルセン研究
○講義概要
20世紀を代表する言語学者Otto Jespersen (1860-1943)の主要著書The Philosophy of Grammarを読む。同書は品詞、名詞の格・数・性、動詞の時制・法といった英文法の根本原理を、Jespersenならではの洞察と独創性に溢れた緻密な筆致で解き明かした、言語学徒の必読書である。毎回の授業はテキストの精読を中心に進めるが、必要に応じてJespersenとは異なる立場を取る文法家の考えも取り上げて、伝統文法の核となっている諸概念を根本的に理解したい。
