The symposium “The Role of Higher Education and Deeper Learning” will be held

Sophia University is pleased to announce that it will host a symposium entitled “The Role of Higher Education and ‘Deeper Learning’ in the Age of AI”, as outlined below. The symposium will be held in a hyflex format (on‑site and online). Please note that the event will be conducted in English only, without  interpretation. We warmly welcome the participation of all those who are interested.

Purpose

As the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) evolve at a remarkable pace, the mission and significance of higher education are once again being called into question. What kinds of learning should universities cultivate in the AI era?

This symposium explores the importance and challenges of the “deeper learning” that Sophia University aspires to promote, drawing on two key OECD initiatives: the international project “Fostering Students’ Creative and Critical Thinking Skills in Higher Education” (2019–2023) and the OECD Digital Education Outlook 2026: Exploring Effective Uses of Generative AI in Education (2026).
