Speeches of Western leaders after World War II
○講義概要
Winston Churchill joined American presidents Truman and Eisenhower and American military geniuses George Marshall and Douglas MacArthur in efforts to organize the post-war world. FDR's widow Eleanor Roosevelt assisted with the formation of the United Nations.This course will use video and audio reproductions of some of their greatest speeches. Students who cannot arrive at Sophia by 0915 should not register for this course.

出席状況(50%)、授業参画(10%)、レポート(40%)
Reports include two oral reports and two written reports. Oral reports can be in Japanese; written reports must be in English.

Copies of the speeches to be studied will be provided without charge.

○授業計画
1Prints will be distributed and the schedule for written and oral assignments will be given. The basic theory of public communication will be introduced.
2Biographical details and early speeches.
3Students will present short oral reports about the historical situations in America, China, or Europe.
4Early speech studied in detail: Churchill's Iron Curtain speech.
5Early speech studied in detail. Students will write a short
report in English with a rhetorical analysis of one speech.
