Children's Literature; Theory and Practice
○講義概要
In the first semester of this class we will ask such basic questions as
'what is a child?', 'what is children's literature?', 'how can
children's literature be studied?'. In the second semester we will
start study projects looking at themes from children's literature
chosen by the class members. These themes might be based in anything
from child psychology and development through to examination of single
texts. These themes will be developed into final reports. Over the whole
year all class members will be required to read a number of books for
children, and to introduce and discuss them with other class members.
There will be presentations for the first semester, and a written
report for the second semester. All teaching will be in English, and all
reports and presentations will be in English, but classroom discussion can be in Japanese.
There will be no set text, but a selection of readings will be provided.
