○講義概要
The aim of this course is for all students to attain basic competence in all four skills by the end of the year.

Students will learn
- to speak appropriate English, participate in debates and discuss a range of issues
- to write clear, simple and grammatical English
- to write a literature essay
- to have reasonable comprehension of everyday conversation and videos, and to catch the main gist of formal spoken English (lectures, etc.)
- to read unspecialised material in English and be able to tackle works of literature

We will focus mainly on reading and listening for gist (general meaning). There will be group discussion, and we will use the computer room from time to time during the first term and the CALL facilities during the second term.

The course is designed to be flexible, and the week-by-week plan given below may change according to students' needs.

Students are strongly recommended to familiarise themselves with my website.

Students must achieve a pass grade (60%) in each grading category in order to pass the course.
