○講義概要
In this advanced course, students will seek to improve their effectiveness in communicating in writing and speaking, largely through writing and presenting a research paper. Students will improve pronunciation for clarity, where necessary. Work will be done in small groups, pairs, individually, and together as a class. There will be an emphasis on punctual attendance and participation in classwork, including discussions and critical analysis of written texts and presentations. The textbook will form the structure for much of the first term, with flexibility for introducing outside materials, such as news articles, or possibly a novel. There will also be outside reading and research required. There will be an atmosphere of mutual encouragement cultivated in the class.
