FILM & TEXT READING COMMUNICATION

| ○講義概要 |
This is a course for students who want to improve their TOEIC/TOEFL Reading skills and enjoy reading short current magazine articles, a book and watching an English-speaking film. In first semester we will practise Intermediate TOEIC test skills and reading intermediate short articles from the magazines, newspapers, the Internet and CALL (Computer-assisted language learning). You will learn how to find the meaning of new vocabulary without a dictionary, skim for details, scan for main ideas and understand the writers' opinions and hidden messages. In second semester we will study the book, "Bridget Jones's Diary" by Helen Fielding and watch the film with Renee Zellweger. You will be required to do some writing at paragraph level and participate simply in small group discussions on the book and the film. The attendance rule will be strictly adhered to.

These will be discussed in first class. You will need an English/English dictionary. We will use handouts and activity pages from CALL and the Internet for reading passages.
