Following SLA 1, this course provides a general survey in the studies of second language acquisition. We will consider important SLA facts, theories, pedagogic proposals for classroom teaching applications, and relevant empirical research findings. In particular, this semester we will read and discuss issues in psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic approaches to SLA, factors influencing individual variation in SLA, including motivation, language aptitude, and starting ages of learning, and second language instruction.
