| Henry Adams and Don DeLillo: Issues of Faith & War, From 1900 to George Bush |
| ○講義概要 |
| In the first term students will be reading from the Modern Library Edition of Henry Adams: Democracy, Esther, Mont Saint Michel and Chartres, The Education of Henry Adams. They will do classroom presentations on chapters from The Education of Henry Adams. They will be graded on these presentations and will also be graded on a seminar paper that they will write on The Education of Henry Adams. In the second term, students will read and discuss End Zone by Don DeLillo. This novel is a very important novel for the Bush era. I can think of no better comparison of George Bush’s us versus them nationalism than American Football. Students will read and discuss this novel all term and then write a seven to ten page seminar paper on it. |
