Sophia University’s Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies and The Educa-tion University of Hong Kong — an internationally renowned institution specializing in teacher education and Hong Kong’s only university in this field — launched a master’s-level double degree program in the fall of the 2024 academic year.Students who fulfill the designated graduation require-ments set by both institutions will be awarded two de-grees: a Master’s in Environmental Studies from Sophia University and a Master’s in Education from The Edu-cation University of Hong Kong.This marks Sophia University’s third double degree pro-gram with an overseas institution, following programs with SOAS University of London in the UK and Chul-alongkorn University in Thailand.On April 15, a Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) 13-member delegation, led by In-stitute Director Ambassador Melanne Verveer, visited So-phia University for a roundtable discussion with President Miki Sugimura, Vice President Mariko Iijima, and other faculty members.GIWPS is a research institute within Georgetown Universi-ty’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. It focuses on the vital role women play in addressing issues such as conflict preven-tion, peacebuilding, economic development, and other global challenges, including climate change and violent extremism. Through global conferences and strategic partnerships, the institute aims to promote a more peaceful and just world.
