31The 23rd Intercollegiate Negotiation Competition, supported by So-phia University as one of the sponsors, was held at Yotsuya Campus on November 16 and 17. The event featured mock arbitration and ne-gotiation conducted in both Japanese and English.Approximately 300 participants from 20 Japanese universities and nine overseas universities, including institutions from Australia, Korea, and Singapore, took part in the competition. A team of 19 students from the International Business Law Seminar of the Faculty of Law represented Sophia University and achieved 2nd place overall out of 29 teams—marking the best performance in the University’s history.On November 14, 2004, HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan visited Sophia University as part of his trip to Ja-pan commemorating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic re-lations between Japan and Jordan.The visit featured a keynote speech by Prince Hassan, fol-lowed by a roundtable discussion with faculty and graduate students specializing in the Middle East region and Islamic studies. The session, which also drew many undergraduate students, addressed a wide range of topics, including politics, economics, geopolitics, education, and gender.Sophia University and the Sophia School Corporation have appointed Professor Miki Sugimura of the Department of Education as the next university president. Her four-year term will begin on April 1, 2025, and end on March 31, 2029.Professor Sugimura will succeed Professor Yoshiaki Teru-michi, whose term concludes in March 2025.
