20SOPHIA MAGAZINE Vol. 17StudentFor Lilika Mizuguchi, a student in the Department of Journalism, art has played a large, motivational role throughout her life. Having met and befriended many who have chosen art as a profession and are surviving on their own tireless efforts and talents, she decided to found a company to bring art and society closer together. Communicating her vision, she saw a path forward and assembled friends who shared her vision. She spoke with us about her journey and her ideas on the relationship between people and art.Lilika founded ConnecTA in January 2023. ConnecTA is a plat-form that matches clients who want one-of-a-kind artworks with artists who can fulfill their specific requests and create artworks for them. This is called “commissioned artwork” in the art industry.“Most people may imagine ‘commissioned art’ as artwork re-quested by a local government for display in a public space. In fact, the term is broader and includes artists prepared to take on commissions from individuals. Because this is not well-known, demand is low. That’s why I started my company with the con-cept of bringing active artists in closer connection with businesses and private individuals.”Sales opportunities for artists can include commemorative art-work created in relation to special events or locations. Examples would be a scroll decorated with a newborn baby’s name written Lilika MizuguchiSTUDENT ENTREPRENEURCONNECTS PEOPLE THROUGHTHE POWER OF ART
