Inspired by the two keywords “collabora-tion” and “network,” Jesuit universities around the world have been working together towards creating a tight-knit “commonwealth” of edu-cational institutions, hoping to realize a better world based on a shared awareness. In this way, Jesuit institutions are able to better cooperate with each other in their efforts to solve current global issues. To that end, Sophia has joined a recently inaugurated intiative that offers online courses to those in regions that lack educational opportunity. Sophia seeks out and joins such initiatives since they fully align with the Jesuit educational philosophy of “Men and Women for Others, with Others,” in the hope that such programs will foster ambitious students capa-ble of making great contributions to the world.Japan, although small, has a rich and complex culture, climate, and society, and Sophia is a trailblazer in utilizing such chracteristics to fos-ter diversity. Based in such a unique country, So-phia University welcomes you to visit. As people travel from place to place and meet one another, they inspire each other to create something new, to innovate. As a Jesuit educational institution, we aim to facilitate that innovation and foster cooperation with the rest of the world. Fr. Tsutomu Sakuma, S.J.Chancellor of Sophia School Corporationgreeting2
