Juan Haidar, S.J.（ホアン・アイダル教授）杉村 「教皇フランシスコと話そう」開催のきっかけは、アイダル先生のメールだったそうですね。アイダル 教皇様は若い人と話すのがお好きです。今回実現したテレビカンファレンスも含めていくつか提案したところ、教皇様から「ぜひやりましょう」とお返事をいただいたのです。管区長 教皇様もこのイベントを心から楽しみされていたのでしょうね。昨年秋にローマで教皇様にお会いした際も、教皇様の方から「今度、上智大学の学生と対話しますが、キミも参加しますか」と声をかけてくださったぐらいです。杉村 教皇様は学生に対してファーストネームで呼びかけてくださり、気さくに語りかけてくださいました。アイダル いつも自然体で自分を飾らないところが教皇様の魅力的なところです。その点は昔からひとつも変わっていません。普段通りの教皇様と接することができたのがよかったですね。管区長 教皇様がペンを回しながら考えたりするところも見られて、まるで隣の部屋で話しているような気持ちになりました。アイダル 私は、世界には政界や経済界のリーダーとは違ったタイプのリーダーがいることを知ってもらいたいと思い、このイベントを企画しました。杉村 強いばかりがリーダーではなく、「人々とともに考える」というリーダーシップのあり方があるということが、今回の対話を通して伝わったのではないでしょうか。管区長 教皇様はローマ・カトリックの宗教的なリーダーですが、今、教皇様に親しみを感じている人々の中には、カトリックの信徒ではない人も大勢います。人々は宗教を超えたところで教皇様のようなリーダーを求めているのではないでしょうか。アイダル パワーやお金では本当に世界の問題を解決することはできません。教皇様は今回の対話を通して「善い人でありながらリーダーであること」は可能であるということを示されたと思います。杉村 今回の「教皇フランシスコと話そう」という企画は、教皇様とアイダル先生のつながりから出発し、さまざまな人と人のつながりの中で成功しました。上智大学でも今まで以上に世界のイエズス会の大学とのネットワークを大切にした教育を進めています。教皇様との時間を、今後の上智大学の教育のあり方にも活かしていきたいと思います。Professor Sugimura (S): I understand that the “Let’s Speak to Pope Francis” dialogue event was sparked by an email that you sent.Fr. Haidar (H): Pope Francis loves talking with young people. When I laid out a number of options including a teleconference, which ul-timately he chose, his reply was very positive. He said, “Let’s do this.” Fr. De Luca (L): Pope Francis must have genuinely been looking forward to this event. When I went to meet the Pope during a train-ing course in Rome last autumn, he asked me, “Will you be joining the dialogue with Sophia University students?”S: The Pope called the students by their first names and spoke in a very affable manner.H: The popularity and appeal of Pope Francis lies in the fact that he is always natural and always himself. On that point he has never changed since the old days. It is fantastic that the students were able to engage with a normal, natural Pope.L: Watching the Pope twirling his pen in thought, it felt as if he was talking to us from the room next door.H: Personally, the reason I planned this event was to let people know that there are different kinds of leaders in the world from those found in politics or business.S: Indeed, not all leaders are strongmen. There is another style of leadership that is about “thinking together with others” and I believe this came across during this dialogue. L: Although Pope Francis is a religious leader of the Roman Cath-olic Church, there is an enormous number of people who feel a connection with him who are not Catholic. It seems that many are seeking a leader like Pope Francis in non-religious areas too.H: Power and money absolutely do not hold the solutions to the world’s problems. Through this dialogue, the Pope demonstrated the possibility of “being a good person and a leader at the same time.”S: The “Let’s Speak to Pope Francis” idea grew from the personal ties between Fr Haidar and Pope Francis, and succeeded as a re-sult of the ties among many different people. At Sophia Univer-sity, more than ever, we are relying on the global network of Jesuit educational institutions to provide the best education.
