Instead I take time once or twice a day to reflect within myself, to review my decision to remain humble. My own self-image is that I am just another stray sheep with the love of God. If education enhances students to chase only success, personal growth cannot be expected; instead, things become retrograde. Education with compassion will allow students to excel. Intelligence, emotion and communication must be harmonized. Also education must serve the common good. Sophia University pro-motes the educational spirit to serve others, and I find it wonderful.”The PopeA“What are your hopes and concerns for the youth of today?”Reina Saito (Faculty of Science and Technology)Q“Young people should not be too comfortable in staying still. Stay active, respect your roots, stay op-timistic, and make challenges – these are my hopes. However, young people possess the energy to move forward with force. Due to such a nature, I am con-cerned; histories and roots are neglected by them from time to time. Your roots include your culture, history, family, and humanity. I strongly recommend watching Akira Kurosawa’s movie “Rhapsody in Au-gust.” It is a good movie featuring dialogues between a youngster and an elderly person reflecting upon their roots. Remember that if there are no roots then there is nothing to support identities. Communicate with the elderly, since you will most likely find them to have roots.” The PopeA「現代の若者に対する希望と懸念は何でしょう？」斉藤伶奈さん（理工学部機能創造理工学科3年）Q「若者は常に先に進む力を持っているが、昨今そのスピードに加速が付きすぎていることを懸念している。スピードが速すぎるために、若者が自分のルーツを失っていることが大きな心配だ。ここで言うルーツとは、文化、歴史、家族、人間としてのルーツのことだ。ルーツがないということは、自分の支えがないのと同じことだ。ルーツを見つけるには、それを持つ高齢者と話をしてもらいたい。また、若者はじっとしていてはだめだ。常に動き回り、ルーツをしっかり持ち、将来を見据えながら挑戦していってほしい。若者と老人の対話を描いた黒澤明の『八月の狂詩曲』は、皆さんにぜひ観てほしい作品だ」教皇A6
